AN EXTERNAL PERSPECTIVE ON THE CAPITAL OF THE REPUBLIC ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY
Since its designation as the capital of the Republic of Türkiye, Ankara has remained a unique and dynamic canvas for the development of a modern visual identity, which has evolved in tandem with its contradictions while upholding its status as the nation’s capital. The contemporary urban landscape of Ankara stands out with unprecedented and extraordinary complexity in the present day. Ankara, with its uniform, rugged, simultaneously exciting and majestic expanse, is a complex and aesthetically versatile city. The students of the Graduate Program in the Department of Architecture at Bilkent University documented the urban formations in Ankara’s peripheries, with a particular emphasis on areas like Beytepe, Eryaman and Oran. The analytical examinations within the exhibition provides insight into the dynamics of formation and transformation within the urban landscape of the capital city of a republic celebrating its 100th year, as explored through the students’ perspective.
